“The more risks you allow children to take, the better they learn to take care of themselves.” Roald Dahl
At Copthorne Infant School, we love Forest Schools. We are lucky to be able to go to the ancient woodland situated at Carnfield Hall. The children explore the woodlands, play games, climb trees, make dens, help make fires, learn how to use tools safely and have fun working together, solving problems and making things from natural materials.
Reception Class participate in Forest Schools on a Friday afternoon from the start of the spring term, they stay at school and use our extensive grounds to practice the skills required before going into the woodland.
Year 1 - We take small groups, on a 6 week block, into the woodland where we learn new skills such as working with tools. We have snacks and hot chocolate as it is hard work being in the forest!
Year 2 - We take small groups, on a 6 week block, into the woodland where we put our new skills into practice. Year 2 also have a full day in the woodland during the summer, which everyone looks forward to.
Here are some of the children making fairies and fairy houses.
The children really enjoy working together to problem solve and make their own dens.
On Forest School we always make sure to have some social time to talk to each other with a snack and a drink. Hot chocolate with marshmallows toasted over the fire always goes down well with the children!
The owners of Carnfield Hall keep unusual pets and are happy for us to learn more about them.
We worked together to conquer mud mountain!
We had great fun decorating our own Christmas trees in our ancient woodland!
